ALMEDALEN: The aftershock of war in Ukraine – how are women and girls affected?

Plats: Sverige i Världen , Visby
Arrangör: Plan International Sverige

The war in Ukraine is shaking the world far from the epicenter of the conflict. Due to the rise in food prices, the conflict has created increased hunger and poverty in severely crisis-affected countries and regions such as the Horn of Africa, Sahel, Yemen and Afghanistan.

At the same time, aid budgets are being cut or diverted, which means less support for women and girls. Millions of girls and young women are threatened by child marriage, trafficking, abuse, early pregnancy and loss of education. This will have severe consequences for their future and girls risk end up in a vicious circle of poverty.

How can we better protect girls and women in crisis and conflict? What can Sweden do to lead and create change? What are the links between peace and security and investments in girls' and women's health, protection and education?
